Privacy policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
PauseTube does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. It has no servers, no analytics, and no account.
What the extension stores
PauseTube keeps a small amount of state in your browser with chrome.storage.local:
- Your settings, such as the gate timer and snooze options.
- The current viewing session: start time, elapsed time, the IDs of the YouTube videos opened in it and how many, snooze state and snooze count, and the intent you typed into the prompt.
Session data is replaced when a new session starts, after 30 minutes of inactivity by default. This data never leaves your device. Removing the extension deletes it.
Permissions
- Access to youtube.com: shows the intent prompt, timer badge, and time gate on YouTube pages.
- storage: saves your settings and the current session locally.
- tabs and webNavigation: detect when a YouTube tab is open or navigates, so the timer runs only while you're on YouTube.
- scripting: adds PauseTube to YouTube tabs that were already open when the extension was installed or updated.
- alarms: runs the session timer.
PauseTube does not read your YouTube account, watch history, or any site other than youtube.com.
